Critical for success
The primary function of the quench system is to control the heat transfer rates from the steel to produce the desired hardness, strength and toughness. Simultaneously, the system should minimize distortion and residual stresses by enhancing the quenching uniformity over the pipe.
Consistency comes from measuring, maintaining and controlling all of the process variables. In many quench system the water is turned on and what happens happens. ESG quench systems will be monitored electronically through pressure readings, flow readings, and temperature readings. Changes in the environment will be flagged through alarms and or graphs. The quench conditions will be known and reproducible.
